No 37679. 9th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment. Born Close Hill, Huddersfield, 8.2.1897. Son of Haigh and Agnes Marsden, 7 Blagden Lane, Close Hill. Educated Newsome Church of England School. Employed as a farm labourer by Mr Paul Mellor, Blagden Lane, Close Hill. Enlisted 18.9.1916. Died of wounds in Salonica, Greece, on 19.9.1918, aged 21 years. Buried SARIGOL MILITARY CEMETERY, SALONIKA. Grave location:- Row C, Grave 477. ROH:- St. John's Church, Newsome.
