Emil G. Racovita

In memoriam

He was a scientist, explorer, speleologist and Romanian biologist, considered the founder of biospeology (the study of underground fauna - caves and phreatic waterbases ). He was elected academician in 1920 and was president of the Romanian Academy between 1926 and 1929. He was the first biologist in the world to study the arctic life.
