March 31, 1995 . A day that started like any other, with people in a hurry to get to work, with people in a hurry to take their children to kindergartens or schools. At dawn, at the "Henri Coandă" International Airport, then the Otopeni International Airport, the preparation operations for a new working day were in full swing: the technical teams were doing the final checks, the buses were starting to transport the passengers to the aircraft that were already fueled by tankers and the crews discussed and prepared their flights. Somewhere in the airport buildings was the crew consisting of the commander Ilie Bătănoiu, the co-pilot Ilie Stoi and the flight attendants, also preparing their flight RO371, which was going to take off shortly to Brussels. Co-pilot Ionel Stoi was appointed pilot-flying. The race, operated by TAROM with the Airbus A310-324 aircraft registered YR-LCC "Muntenia", was to take on board 60 people: 11 crew members and 49 passengers of various nationalities: Belgian
