In memoriam
Scumpului și neuitatului nostru Filip Bechi (1878-1946) - Maior de jandarmi - Mort în orașul Brăila în seara zilei de 6 septembrie 1946.
Filip Bechi, who died, as we read on the cross, in September 1946. Between Mihai Bravu and Roșiori streets was Bechi's wool-pulling workshop, whose son, Dr. Nicu Teodorescu recalled, was a gendarme officer. Declared a war criminal by the newly communist regime, he hid in a sewer on Griviței towards Albina street, but was shot in the leg, imprisoned and tortured to death. On his cross in St Constantine's cemetery was written, for a long time, dead in prison. Another variant: at the time of his arrest, he shot two policemen. He was caught and tortured, having his eyes gouged out and his tongue cut out. The parents obtained an autopsy, which was carried out in the alleyway in front of the grave after the body was exhumed, but, as we know, the dead man is still guilty. According to his confessions, Dr. Nicolae Robitu (who had known the rigours of communist prisons, arrested on the night of 14/15 May 1948, detained in the Brăila penitentiary) discovered traces of the maiming and mutilation
