In memoriam

Son of Jožef Kuhar and Terezija Lukan Kuhar. Born and lived in Videm. Died and buried at Videm. Kuhar was a blacksmith and he was targeted by the Partisans because he had publicly condemned killings by communist forces in the area. The Partisans had ordered him to prepare two bicycles. Two Partisans then came to his house and called him out of his workshop; one Partisan forced his wife and children into another room, and the other Partisan shot Kuhar five times in the head in the kitchen, and then they fled on the two bicycles towards Ihan. Along the way, they shot Marija Gregorin through her window. However, Kuhar was still alive and was sent to the hospital at Golnik to recover. His wife was assured by the local Partisans that he would be permitted to return safely. After Kuhar had recovered and returned home, on the evening of December 28th, 1943, the Partisans surrounded the house while the family was eating dinner. The one that had intimidated the mother and children during the first visit entered the kitchen and shot Kuhar dead at the dinner table.
