In memoriam

Franjo Bajuk was born in Metlika, Slovenia, close to Town of Karlovac in late 1800s. He studied commerce in Karlovac (trgovina) and became a shopkeeper/trader. He married Ivana nee Babnik (born in Preska, Slovenia) circa 1923-5 They had seven children, two boys and five girls: Francek, Ivanka, Anka, Stefa, Bojka, Gordana and Damir. He was a successful trader and businessman and owned a home and mercantile in Bukovica Prekriska in Zagreb County, Croatia (former Yugoslavia) and the family lived a bourgeois privileged life. Franjo and Ivana were highly regarded and well liked in the community. At the end of WWII, Franjo was coerced under threat of death by the Communists to sign over the title of his home and business. The family was evicted from their home and they moved to Brezaric with only a few of their belongings, which left a lasting trauma on the family. Franjo was a gentle family man who was adored by his wife and his children. He died in Croatia in 1967.
