In memoriam

Franz Kollmann was the descendant of the Kollmann merchant family of Upper Carniola, from Zgoše near Begunje na Gorenjskem. The family also produced the Ljubljana glass merchant Franz Resman, who had no male heirs and turned over his business to Franz Kollmann in 1872. Kollmann founded a glass workshop and expanded the business to include porcelain. From 1904 until his death he was president of the Ljubljana Savings Bank. His properties included the Podrožnik Mansion in Ljubljana's Rožna Dolina neighborhood and the Triglav Mansion in Bled. He donated much of his wealth to charity, as did his son Robert Kollmann, who donated 100,000 dinars in 1928 to become a founding member of the National Gallery in Ljubljana. The family's business operated until 1946, when it was shut down by the Yugoslav authorities and the family's property was confiscated.
