WW2 Service Australian Army Rank Gunner Royal Australian Artillery VX11838 Posting on Death: 2/2nd FIELD REGIMENT, he was killed in action in Crete. Vic. Paybook photograph of VX11838 Gunner Frederick Henry James Pickles, 2/2nd Field Regiment., Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Pickles, aged 26, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 23 May 1941. He was the son of James and Emma Alice Ann Pickles, of Hobart, Tas. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in BRIGHTON BEACH Vic, also his name is located at panel 17 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
