Paybook photograph of NX5132 Private Frederick William Cockrill, 2/4th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Cockrill, aged 37, drowned during the evacuation of Crete on 29 May 1941, after defending the island of against the German land and airborne invasion. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 11. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in Blacktown NSW, also his name is located at panel 30 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Frederick William Cockrill, and the husband of Lilian R. Cockrill, of Plumpton, NSW. Father Frederick William Cockrill (1871-1939) Mother Martha Lickfold (1878-1939) Spouse Lilian Rosetta Devonshire (1900-1987)
