DARBY George Edward Private 1974. South Nottinghamshire Hussars. Died Salonika 6th July 1916, aged 31 years. Son of Edward and Hannah Darby of Barrowby, Lincs. Born Long Eaton, enlisted and resident Nottingham, Notts. Interred SALONIKA (LEMBET ROAD) MILITARY CEMETERY. 200. Commemorated Barrowby All Saints The death occurred of malarial fever, on July 6th at the First Canadian Stationary Hospital, Salonika, of Pte. George Edward Darby, younger son of the late Mr. Edward Darby, of Barrowby. The sad news was received by his sister in Nottingham on July 12. Pte. Darby left England for Salonika late last autumn, having joined the South Notts Hussars in the early part of 1915. When in this neighbourhood some years ago he was in the Grantham Territorials.
