VX6462 Posting on Death: 2/8th AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION, he was presumed dead in Crete. Description Vic. Paybook photograph of VX6462 Private George Herbert Blowers (Mentioned in Despatches), 2/8th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Blowers, aged 33, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 1 June 1941. He was the son of John and Katherine Eva Blowers, of Rutherglen, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in RUTHERGLEN, also his name is located at panel 33 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
