Romanian literary critic and politician. Studied at the Universities of Iasi and Bucharest. Wrote columns for literary magazines. Became a newspaper journalist after the 1989 Romanian Revolution. Hosted a daily 5 minute TV program on the correct usage of the Romanian language. Elected to the Romanian Senate as a Constanta County Senator of the National Peasant's Party in 1996. Elected again in Bistrita-Nasaud County as a member of the Social Democratic Party In 2000. Joined the Greater Romania Party in 2003. In 1997 introduced the "Pruteanu Bill" requiring all public notices including ads in foreign languages to have Romanian translations. Pruteanu was critical of the Romanian entertainment industry, specifically low-quality TV programs.
