Sergeant McGowan, aged 29, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 23 May 1941. He was the son of John and Margaret Morrison McGowan, of Glasgow, Scotland. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in CARNAMAH WA, also his name is located at panel 35 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
