George Vakirtzis (1923-31 January 1988) was a Greek painter of the 20th century. He was artistic director of Skouras Films and also worked with Finos Films. Known work is the series "Monologues" (launched in 1986). Born in Mytilene and came from Asia Minor. He worked from an early age and from 1938 to 1940 studied alongside Almaliotis, who taught the art of giant. He entered the Fine Arts School in 1939 and studied alongside Konstantinos Parthenis and Umberto Argyros. Then he continued his studies on painting, printmaking and graphic Fine Arts (École des Beaux-Arts) in Paris. From 1945 to 1964 he edited numerous posters for the Greek cinema films. In 1949 for the first time participated in an exhibition and in 1960 he organized the first of the fifteen solo exhibitions. Apart from Greece, his works were presented in the US reports, Germany and Yugoslavia. He also dealt with the ply covers for magazines, books and albums and was the author of books on art. He died in Athens in 1988. A year after his death, the National Gallery honored the memory of Vakirtzis a major retrospective. As artist Vakirtzis focused on humans utilizing data from the billboards, the folk painting and expressionism to present works inspired by Greek history, politics and society.
