Georgios M. “Giorgos” Theodorakis

Georgios M. Theodorakis (c.1895/6-1977), at the age of 16, and a student of Chania High School, voluntarily joined the Greek army, was assigned to the "Sacred Squadron of Cretan Students", and fought against the Ottomans during the First Balkan War in the Epirus campaign, in the siege of Bizani. He took part in the Battle of Pesta on 29th November 1912, in which the Cretan Squadron suffered its first fatalities, a fellow Cretan soldier being shot dead next to him. His military contribution ended with his wounding in the Battle of Mandra, on 8th December 1912, on a hill between Aetorrachi and Bizani.
