Romanian revolutionary and soldier from Wallachia. He volunteered for the Imperial Russian side in the Russo-Turkish War and was decorated with the Order of Saint Anne by Tsar Alexander I. He later became a revolutionary and ordered his troops to disband when the Ottomans swept into Bucharest. After exile in Paris he returned to Wallachia and worked for the Union of Moldavia and Wallachia. Boulevard Magheru in Bucharest is named after him and he was honored on a postage stamp issued by the Romanian Postal Service.
