Paybook photograph of VX42112 Gunner Harold Erskine Lyle, 3rd Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Lyle, aged 40, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 20 May 1941. He was the son of John Erskine Lyle and Annie (Sutcliffe) Lyle, and the husband of Hazel Lucrece Lyle, of Mordialloc, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10.
