COMPANY SERJEANT MAJOR 30010 H.CRUTCH ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGIMENT

30010 Colour Sgt.Major(CSM) Harry Crutch DCM , 7th.Btn: Royal Berkshire Regiment Died 16th.December 1918 (CWGC) It is believed that this soldier was murdered in Dobrich, Bulgaria in 1918 and his body never recovered. Harry originally enlisted on the 27th.January 1899 as 5503 Royal Berkshire Regiment, Discharged 2nd.February 1916 at the termination of 2nd.Period and re-enlisted as 30010 Royal Berks. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal 13-1-1918 (LG 18-2-1918) and the Serbian Order of the Cross of Karageorge 1st.Class (LG 28-1-1918) Mentioned In Despatches as 5503 Royal Berks.(LG 1-1-1916) and again as 30010 (LG 28-11-1916). He was Married to Mildred Maud Boxall (b.9-11-1883) on 4th.January 1908 and had 5 Childern, Mildred, Doris, Harry, George & Alfred. He was accepted for commemoration as war dead on 30th April 2009. Harry, having originally landed in France on the 20-9-1914, is considered an 'Old Contemptible'. To qualify as an "Old Contemptible" a British Army soldier would have to have seen active service actually in France and Flanders between 5 August and 22 November 1914.
