WW2 Service Australian Army Rank Private VX12527 Posting on Death: 2/7th AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION, he was presumed dead in Crete Greece. Description of Vic. Paybook photograph of VX12527 Private Henry Larneth Wilkes, 2/7th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Wilkes, aged 33, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 26 May 1941. He was the son of Richard Charles and Ida Wilkes, of Coburg, Vic.
