Henry Yarde “Harry” Martin

In memoriam

Son of William Henry Martin, Paymaster-in-Chief, Royal Navy, and Rosa Ann (nee Baker). Henry was baptised at St Matthias, Plymouth, Devon, on 16 December 1888. In 1891 the family lived in Compton Gifford, Devon, but by 1901 they had moved to Bedford, Bedfordshire. His father died the following year. In 1911 Henry was a lodger in Newbury, Berkshire. He married Nora Sydney Acheson in the Bedford registration district in 1915. They had a son, Henry Noel Yarde Martin, who was born towards the end of 1916, probably just after his father died. This Henry (Harry) is remembered on the gravestone of his father, William Henry, at Foster Hill Road Cemetery, Bedford.
