In memoriam

Lieutenant Hugh Elliot, 1st Battalion The King's Regiment (Liverpool). He was the son of Major Hugh Elliot, and Alicia Lucy Elliot (née Robinson) of Grosvenor Terrace, Teignmouth, Devon. Educated at Hillsborough School, Teignmouth, Devon and Christ's Hospital Horsham (Boarding School) 1909-1913. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the The King's Regiment (Liverpool) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 12 Aug 1914. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 7 Jan 1915. He served in Flanders from Oct 1914 to Jan 1915 attached to the Manchester Regiment. He rejoined his own Regiment, serving with the 1st Battalion in France from Feb to Jun 1915. He was invalided home in Feb 1915, but returned to the Front and fought in the battle of Neuve Chappelle. He was attached to 14th Battalion The King's Regiment (Liverpool) with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. He died of dysentery in Salonika on 21 Jun 1916. He was buried in Salonika Lembet Road Military Cemetery, Thessaloniki, Regional unit of Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece. He is also commemorated on the Christ's Hospital WW1 Memorial, The Avenue, Horsham, West Sussex (see: https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/16627), on the Teignmouth Seafront War Memorial, Teignmouth, Devon (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/98198/), on the St James the Less Church stained glass memorial window, Bitton Park Road, Teignmouth (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/230212/) and on the King's Regiment (Liverpool) WW1 Memorial in the Royal Memorial Chapel, RMA Sandhurst, Camberley, Surrey Heath Borough, Surrey, England.
