In memoriam

Ioannis Metaxas was the Prime Minister and dictator of Greece from 1936-1941, Before he became Prime Minister he had a career in the military. On 28 October 1940 he responded to the demands of Italian dictator Mussolini that Greece allow Italy to occupy strategic Greek sites with one word "Ochi!" (No!). This led to the Greco-Italian war in which Greece was victorius. Metaxas died in 1941 three months before the invation and occupation of his country by the axis powers. The invation put an end to his regime.
