Ion I. C. Brătianu

Prime Minister of Romania. A member of Romania's Brătianu family, he was the eldest son of statesman and prime minister Ion Brătianu, the brother of prime minister Vintilă and Dinu Brătianu, and the father of Gheorghe I. Brătianu. A member of Romania's National Liberation Party, he served as prime minister on five separate occasions. First, from January 9, 1909 to December 28, 1910; second, from January 4, 1914 to January 28, 1918; third, from November 29, 1918 to September 26, 1919; fourth, from January 17, 1922 to March 29, 1926 and lastly from June 21, 1927 to November 24, 1927. He also served as Foreign Minister several times. Prior to becoming a politician, he studied engineering in France. Returning to Romania, he an officer in the army for a short time and then an engineer for the Romanian railroads.
