Olympic Medalist. In his athletic career he competed in the 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics in the two and four man bobsled events. At the 1968 Winter Olympics that were held in Grenoble, France he and brakeman Nicolae Neagoe won Romania's first and only winter Olympics medal to date, a bronze medal. He also competed at the FIBT World Championships, winning a silver medal in 1969 and a bronze in 1973 in the two man event. At the European championships he won the four-man gold medals in 1967 and 1971, placing second in four-man in 1968–69 and in two-man events in 1967 and 1969; he also won a four-man bronze medal in 1970. For his sports achievements he was made an honorary citizen of three towns in Romania Comarnic, Sinaia and Busteni.After he retired as athlete, he became a coach for the Romanian federation.
