Iuliu Maniu

Prime Minister of Romania. Co-founder of the Romanian National Peasants' Party, he served as prime minister on three occasions. First, from November 10, 1928 to June 6, 1930; second, from June 13, 1930 to October 9, 1930 and lastly, from October 20, 1932 to January 13, 1933. Prior to becoming prime minister, he earned a doctorate in law in 1896. He served as a lawyer for the Greek Catholic Church and then as an advisor to Archduke Franz Ferdinand. He entered politics becoming President of the Romanian National Party serving from February 23, 1919 to October10, 1926. He then became Leader of the National Peasants' Party serving from October 10, 1926 to June of 1931, July of 1932 to January of 1933 and December of 1937 to July of 1947 when he was arrested by the Communist. As prime minister, he was a prominent supporter of the Western Allies and one of the main adversaries of growing Soviet influence in Romania.
