Ivan Meštrović was a renowned Croatian sculptor, architect and writer of the 20th century. He tenured at Syracuse and Notre Dame Universities. He was the first artist to have a solo exibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London which went on display in 1950. He was the first living artist to have his work exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He was awarded the American Academy of Arts and Letters gold medal for sculpture in 1953 . He was also good friends with Nikola Tesla, and created a bust of him which is the most well-known art regarding Tesla. The Mestrovic Gallery in Split, Croatia, contains many of his amazing works, including a dramatic and larger than life-size bronze sculpture depiction of the biblical Job.
