Ivan Žužić was born in Valun on the island of Cres, present-day Croatia, on 1 April 1829. That day, he was baptized Joannes by his parents Joannes Xusich (Ivan Žužić) and Antonia Petrovich at Sv. Marko Roman Catholic Church. Ivan married Katarina Krivičić of Valun on 1 February 1864 at the same church. According to his marriage record, Ivan was a sailor (marinaggio) and his father was a farmer (agricoltore). Ivan and Katarina had 10 children together in Valun, according to the parish's baptism registry: Giovanni (1865-1865), Giovanni/John (1866), Mateo/Martin (1868-1941), Domenico/Domenick (1870), Antonio/Tony (1872), Maria (1875-1965), Francesco/Frank (1878-1942), Caterina (1881-1962), Giuseppe/Joseph (1884-1949), and Angelo (1886-1886). Several of their sons moved to America and passed away there, including Martin, Frank and Joseph. Ivan passed away on 13 March 1913, according to a church census for Sv. Marko. It is likely he is buried at the church cemetery with no headstone. Note: For privacy, the church census page will not be posted here.
