Janko “John” Segaric

In memoriam

Pastor of St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church in Los Angeles, California, where he served for 40 years, from 1960 until retiring in 2001. Rev. Monsignor Janko "John" Segaric was ordained to the priesthood on December 18, 1948 in Rome, and served in Europe until coming to Los Angeles in 1960. He became the pastor of St. Anthony's parish after his associate and former pastor Monsignor Felix Diomartich retired in 1986, and he retired as pastor emeritus in 1999. Honored as a Monisignor by Pope St. John Paul II in 1999, Msgr. Segaric returned to his homeland of Zadar, Croatia, when he retired from active ministry in 2001. He is buried on Ist Island alongside his uncle, Msgr. Toma Segaric (1889-1961), who first inspired him to become a Catholic priest.
