In memoriam

21344 Lance Corporal Jessie Halford Wicks, was Killed in Action, on the 25th.April 1917, Aged 26, while serving with the 7th.Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. Son of John and Minnie Wicks, of The Rosery, Stoke Gifford, Bristol. At the time of the 1911 Census taken on the 2nd.April, Jesse, aged 20 was employed at Great Western Railway as a Labourer and living at The Village Stoke Gifford, Gloucestershire with his parents and four siblings. Father John (40) was working as a 'Brick Burner' at a brick works, mother Minnie (39) was the homemaker, brother George (15) was a 'General Labourer', sisters Ruth E was 13, Mary Ellen 9 and Lilian R 2. Jesse's mother died in the 4th.Qtr.of 1943, aged 72. Jesse is Remembered on the Stoke Gifford War Memorial.
