Johann Binder was born in Peschendorf (near Mediasch), Transylvania, Romania and was the son of Andreas and Katharina "Wulkesch" Binder. Johann married Ann Gehann on July 15, 1889 in the village of Grosslasseln now called Laslea, in the county of Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania. Johann died December 8, 1925, in Grosslasseln of "Delirium. He is buried in Plot 220 of the Evangelical Church Cemetery in Laslea.
