Johann Kump

In memoriam

Johann Kump was born in Kumrova vas (Germ. Kummerdorf). He bought the house and property at Koprivnik (Germ. Nesselthal) no. 23 from Franz Stalzer in 1897. He was married to Magdalena Kosar (1862-?) and had two children, including a son Johann (born in 1894 in Kumrova vas/Kummerdorf). He opened the inn at Koprivnik (Germ. Nesselthal) no. 23 about 1900 and died after a brief illness in 1908. His son Johann continued to run the inn (after learning the butcher's trade in Koèevje, serving in the First World War, and being a PoW in Russia). Johann junior set up a bowling alley on the south side of the inn and had a shop in the neighboring building where he sold school supplies, tobacco, and concrete roof tiles, in addition to delivering mail (like Johann senior). He left Koprivnik in the winter of 1941/42, lived in Leskovec pri Krškem until 1945, and then emigrated to the United States (Source: Rast 2/2010, p. 37)
