Paybook photograph of VX31444 Gunner John Edward Einsiedel, 3rd Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Einsiedel, aged 28, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 29 May 1941. He was the son of Frederick Frank and Janet Einsiedel, and the husband of Jessie Maude Einsiedel, of Crib Point, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10. He is also remembered on the Roll of Honour in Cribb Point Vic and at panel 20 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial. Father Frederick Frank Einsiedel (1876-6.11.1958) Mother 'Jessie' Janet GROVES (1877-1915) Spouse Jessie Maude Washbourne (1918-28.6.1989) remarried Stanley Rowland Clarke 1946.
