John Francis Hillinger, 90, Port Charlotte, died June 14, 2003. He was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Vienna, Austria, and came to Port Charlotte 23 years ago from Willowick, Ohio. He was a structural and mechanical engineer who retired in 1980. He obtained his BS degree in mechanical engineering in Slovenia. He was a member of the American Slovenian Catholic Union (KSKJ), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. He was Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Maria; daughters Catherina M. Long of Apple Valley, Minn., and Maria A. Hudson of Columbia, Md; and one grandchild. A memorial and inurnment service will be held in June 2004 in Celje, Slovenia. National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte chapter, is in charge.
