2385537 Signalman John Horace Marsden SOE Force 133 Royal Corps of Signals He died of Black Water Fever age 26 son of Arthur and Emily Marsden,Rotherham,Yorkshire husband of Lily Marsden,Rotherham,Yorkshire died Greece. He was educated at Wellgate Council School & Rotherham Grammar School and was later employed by British Wagon & Co. He was also a member of Rotherham YMCA. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in August 1940 and was drafted abroad May 1942. In 1943 he served with the Special Operations Executive's Force 133 in Greece. He now lies in the Phaleron War Cemetery which is a few miles to the south-east of Athens, Greece. Signalman Marsden was one of four W/T operators landed by aircraft in Greece on 16 September 1943 to join the Special Operations Executive mission. He contracted malaria and died at Pendálofon in western Greece on 15 October 1943. Originally buried at Pendálofon Civil Cemetery, where a stone grave marker had been engraved and erected by the villagers, his remains were reinterred on 7 June 1945 at Phaleron War Cemetery
