Royal Artillery

He was the son of William and Julia McBride (nee Drohan) of 118 Boundary Street, Liverpool and husband of Mary McBride of Garston, Liverpool. Served with 106 (The Lancashire Hussars) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, who were being evacuated from Greece, Nauplia, on 27th April 1941, the ship was attacked by German JU-87 Stuka dive bombers of Luftwaffe squadron JG-77 and sank with the loss of 203 crew members and an estimated 500 soldiers. Survivors were picked up, whilst under heavy fire, by the destroyers HMS Wryneck and HMS Diamond, but they were then also sunk. info from: http://ww2talk.com/index.php?threads/106-the-lanc-hussars-lt-aa-regt-ra-april-1941.15389/
