207833 Pte. John McKenny. 19th Bn. Rifle Brigade. Son of John and Rose McKenny nee McGinn, of Fair Green, Ardee, Co. Louth. On 1 January 1917 SS Ivernia, with 2,400 British troops, en route from Marseille to Alexandria was torpedoed by the German submarine UB-47 south-east of Cape Matapan in Greece. 36 crew and 84 troops were lost in the sinking.
