In memoriam

THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT

ABLE SEAMAN J B GLENDENNING Service Number: Tyneside Z/1918 Regiment & Unit/Ship: Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, Anson Bn. R.N. Div. Died 06 June 1915 The CWGC lists his surname as Glendenning but census returns and his enlistment record show it as Glendinning, as on his family's headstone in Bedlington Cemetery. He is listed on the Ashington War Memorial as J B Glendinning, RNVR. He was born at Barrington, which was a small mining village made up of a few rows of terraced houses, located between Bedlington and Choppington, in Northumberland. After the colliery closed in 1948, it and most of the houses, which had outside toilets, were demolished. The village no longer exists, but the name is still present in Barrington Road, which runs from Bedlington and Choppington, and in Barrington Industrial Estate.
