Joseph Werschitz

He was born in Spodnji Velovlek 15, north of Ptuj, Slovenija He died in Rogoznica 2, Slovenija, now an eastern part of Ptuj. When he came and went the city of Ptuj was Austrian and called Pettau. His Slovenian name was spelled VERŠIČ, but he chose to use a German spelling in the United States, Werschitz. After he died his second wife and my grandmother Josephine, then of legal age, went to court in Dayton to change the spelling to Versic which the family still uses today in the United States. He wanted the family to return to the old country with him but they would not. He came and left with tuberculosis which was endemic in his family. He returned to live and die with his sister, who had married his first wife's brother. That not interesting enough, death records show that his mother in law died the same day in the same house. My cousins still live in the house.
