Jože Kavčič

In memoriam

Jože Kavčič was trained as a chimney sweep, but worked as a police officer after serving in the Yugoslav Royal Army. The German authorities exiled him from Jesenice to Serbia during the war together with his wife Marija (who was pregnant at the time) and three children, but they were allowed to return a few months later and went to his home village of Zaplana. There Jože was given a choice between being shot, sent to a prison camp, or joining the Village Guards. He chose the last option and became a commander.
