Also known as Karel Dežman or Dragotin Dežman. He was a politician (he served as mayor of Ljubljana from 1871 to 1874), archaeologist (he conducted excavations in the Ljubljana Marshes), and botanist (he contributed the natural science terminology to Maks Pleteršnik's Slovenian-German dictionary).
