The following is the story, as told by the grandson of Theodoros (Falez), of how the family received the name Kolokotronis... "Lambros Botsikas, who was very heavy, had the habit of sitting down on a rock while fighting. He would not lie on the ground nor would he stand up and never retreated. In one of his encounters with the Turks he was wounded in the leg right above the knee. His comrades who were retreating were calling him to follow them, but he was not moving because he was wounded. The Turks, seeing him alone, came to take him prisoner. He then proceeded to shoot and killed two of them. His comrades, seeing him fighting, came back and chased the Turks away. But Lambros, who could not get up and participate in the fight, remained sitting. His comrades came back and saw him sitting still on the rock. Then one of them said, “Would you look at him. His bottom is glued to the rock (kotrona) and he cannot move.” Then he yelled at him “Kolokotroni, get up!” He then responded, “I have been hit and cannot move!” Since then the name Kolokotronis stayed with him and all his descendants as their last name."
