Leopold Kozlevčar

In memoriam

Leopold Kozlevčar was a shopkeeper by profession and was born in the village of Slovenska Vas near the town of Šentrupert in Lower Carniola. He collected antiques, art, and folk art before and after the Second World War. He spent his last days at the monastery in Stična, in gratitude for which he left his extensive collection to the Ljubljana Archbishopric with the wish that it be kept at the Cistercian Abbey in Stična. His collection includes 1,400 items, including paintings by prominent Slovenian artists and paintings on glass. A 1947 portrait of him by Matej Sternen hangs in the central hall of the old prelature at Stična Abbey.
