HMS Dreadnought was moored off Argoustoli when Lucius was killed in an explosion in the boiler room, along with William H Towner, who is also buried in The British Cemetery. A letter was written to his family after the event and is still held by descendants of the family. Lucius, formerly a butcher, was the son of Lucius Steed, a plumber, and Jane nee Cobb. Lucius had two brothers and four sisters. Lucius joined the Royal Navy on the 11 May 1884, he was 5'6'', brown hair, blue eyes, and had a scar in the centre of his forehead. The final entry on his service record states: Discharged Dead - drowned at Argostoli 12/10/87.
