Son of Janez and Terezija Rupar. His father was originally from Škofja Loka. Maks was born in Murzzuschlag, Upper Styria. He was the seventh child among eight sons and seven daughters. He attended high school in Ptuj and Ljubljana. He decided to joined the Lazarists at age twenty and was accepted on July 7th, 1928. He said his vows in 1932 and was ordained on August 13th, 1933. In 1937 and 1938 he assisted Bishop Gnidovec in Macedonia. He relocated from Skopje to Belgrade on August 29th, 1938, and on August 5th, 1940 was provisionally made a priest in the Belgrade archdioceses to serve Catholics in Ravna Reka near Smederevo. He was killed by Serbian Chetnik forces for siding with the Germans: on August 8th, 1941 he was shot at, abducted, and taken into the woods, and never returned. He is believed to have been killed on November 22nd, 1941; in the parish records this date was later rewritten as August 8th, 1941. Source: http://www.brezmadezna.com/md/mucenci.htm
