WW2 Service Australian Army Rank Gunner VX34272. He drowned as a result of enemy action, when the ship he was on was bombed & sunk approximately 25 miles off the coast of Crete. Description Vic. Gunner Fothergill, aged 24, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 29 May 1941. He was the son of Cyril Augustus and Florence Nellie Fothergill, of Thornbury, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10, also hos name is located at panel 20 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
