Paybook photograph of VX44522 Gunner Alexander Thomas Poole, 3rd Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. Gunner Poole, aged 30, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 28 May 1941. He was the son of Joseph Thomas Poole and Flora Poole, of Girgaree East, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 10. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in Tatura, also his name is located at panel 21 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
