In memoriam
Pte. David Smith, 81st Company, Machine Gun Corps, was killed in action at Salonika on 3rd October 1916. He is buried in Struma Military Cemetery. His brother, Driver James Smith, 9th Corps Transport Depot, died of wounds on 8 December 1915. His photograph accompanied the report of his death on 25th December 1915: "KILLED AT DARDANELLES. "Mr. and Mrs. Aitken, 6 Hill Street, Kirkcaldy, who have three sons, a son-in-law, and three nephews serving with the colors, received a letter from one of their sons yesterday morning [24th December 1915] informing them that a nephew, Driver James Smith, A.S.C., was mortally wounded at the Dardanelles on 6 December and died on 7 December.
