In memoriam

Dimitris Mitaras (June 18, 1934 - February 16, 2017) was a modern Greek painter with international acclaim and a professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASKT). He was born in Chalkida in June 1934. He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts (1953-1958) with professors Yannis Moralis and Spyros Papaloukas. He continued studying stage design at the "École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs", as well as interior decoration at the "Métiers d'Art" in Paris (1960-1964) with a scholarship from IKY. In 1975 he was elected professor of the ASCR. His works have been exhibited in Athens, in individual exhibitions at the Zygos Gallery, Astor, Merlin, Art Hall (Thessaloniki), as well as in Bologna, Florence, Rome, Genoa etc. In March 2008 He was elected a full member of the Academy of Athens [2]. The Academy deleted it from its yearbook because after illness it remained blind He died on February 16, 2017, at the age of 82.
