SON OF HENRY AND MARY STANLEY UFTON, WARWICKSHIRE

9598 Serjeant Fred Stanley, Died of Wounds received in action on the 5th.October 1916, Aged 24, while serving with 7th.Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. Son of Henry and Mary Stanley, of Pasha Farm, Ufton, Southam, Warwickshire. James was originally buried in Janes Military Cemetery, a few miles to the north of Sarigol, exhumed and reburied in Sarigol Cemetery sometime during 1921-22. Fred originally disembarked in France on the 6th.November 1914 with the 2nd.Btn. of the Berkshires and at some point transferred to the 7th.Btn. before they were posted to Salonika on the 9th November 1915. The Battalion departed from Marseilles on the 11th November on the MT Arcadian. They reached Alexandria on the 18th and Salonika on the 24th. At the end of the year the battalion were in trenches at Yailajik.
