Obituary GROUP CAPTAIN HARRY GEORGE WHEELER, who died on September 21 as result of a motor accident in the Middle East, was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. H Wheeler, of Purbrook, Hants, and was born on November 7, 1906, at Great Warley, Essex. He was educated in India, where he began his service in the Northern Bengal Mounted Rifles. In January, 1925, he entered Cranwell, and on graduating as a pilot officer was posted to a bomber squadron. Specializing in air photography, he was employed on flying and photographic duties in India from 1928 to 1930, at the School of Army Cooperation from 1931 to 1933, and in India again from 1933 to 1937. he had qualified as an interpreter in Urdu. During 1938 he was in the Intelligence Directorate at the Air Ministry, and when the war began was attending the course at the R.A.F. Staff College. He was promoted squadron leader in 1937 and group captain on June 1, 1942. He married Rosamund, daughter of the Rev. R. and Mrs. Usher, of Fovant Rectory, Wiltshire.
